The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
