Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his future after a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his team in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period of this nature with performances this poor.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
